Nannucci named Division I Player of the Week
Gadsden, Ala.— Freshman shooting guard Giovanni Nannucci of the Gadsden State Cardinals men’s basketball team was named the Division I Player of the Week by the Alabama Community College Conference. The recognition comes after his strong performance in Gadsden State’s 102-85 victory over Marion Military Institute on Nov. 2.
Nannucci is a native of Greensboro, N.C., and a graduate of Southeast Guilford High School. He scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out five assists and tallied one steal in the MMI win. His efficiency percentage is 75 percent from the field and a perfect 100 from the free-throw line.
“Giovanni has been a huge asset to our team,” said Deddrick Tarver, head coach of Cardinals basketball team. “He’s a hard worker who has been putting in the effort both on and off the court, and it’s paying off. He’s not only a great scorer, but he does a lot of little things that help us win games, like grabbing a key rebound or getting his teammates pumped up and into the game. This recognition is well-deserved, and I know it’s just the beginning for him.”
Nannucci’s performance is part of an undefeated start to the season for the Cardinals. In addition to the win over MMI, the team has also defeated South Georgia Technical College, Gordon State College, East Georgia State College, Snead State Community College and, most recently, Wallace Community College-Selma in a 76-74 home victory on Nov. 11. The Cardinals will play the next game at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at Snead State.
Nannucci’s recognition as Player of the Week is the second such honor for Gadsden State this season. Allie Bryant, a member of the women’s volleyball team, was named Defensive Player of the Week by the ACCC on Sept. 3.
